Too many people experience this, after years of loyalty to a company or business. You started at entry level and worked your way up to… well, the middle. You’re ready to make the shift to management, more than ready. And you probably know more than enough about your job to do it tomorrow without a hitch. But without continuing your education, it seems impossible. You have the skills, but you need the piece of paper that says you’re college educated.
Getting your college degree is not as difficult, expensive, or time consuming as you might believe. There are many online colleges now that take into account your life experience and translate that experience into college credits. You’ll still have to take some classes, of course, but you may need only a year of part-time schooling. The process involves an assessment of your experience, one that considers not only your previous education, but your on the job training, your experience working, even educational hobbies and outside interests you may pursue.
Don’t keep getting passed over because you don’t have a piece of paper, when you know you’re the best man or woman for the job. Research continuing your education and take advantage of all of the distance learning and online educational options out there to get your degree. You’ll be glad you did, and wonder why you waited so long.
