Continuing Education: Your Path To A More Productive Job Search

If you’re looking for a job in today’s market, or fear you’re stuck in a dead in career but don’t know how to jump start your promotion opportunities or your job search, consider going back to school.  Your skills may be up to par, but if you haven’t stepped foot in a classroom in years, you may be missing out on the career opportunities you deserve. You may not need additional training to show that you have what it takes to succeed in a particular position that you’re applying for.  But it looks good on your resume if you show that you’ve been continuing to take classes and earn credits.

And earning a higher degree, or even an additional degree, can also make a big difference in how successful your job search is.  While you may be more than qualified for a position based on experience, more and more companies have non-negotiable educational requirements attached to certain jobs.  If a job requires a bachelor’s degree as one of its qualifications, it may not matter to the hiring department if you’ve worked in a similar position for 15 years–unless you have that degree.  This is especially true with larger corporations.  And while larger corporations may not always be the best environments for work, they may also offer better benefits and job security.  It’s best, especially considering today’s job market, to avail yourself of every opportunity available to you. At the very least you will be able to compare the options available and choose among more than one offered position.

Having a choice between job offers means being able to choose the career path that best fits your own personal goals, dreams, and lifestyle.  When you have to take whatever is available, you have to settle for less.  That’s just how the job market works. Continuing your education means that you’re less likely to have to settle and more likely to have the job that will benefit you the most.  It’s a small investment that expands your opportunities exponentially. There are many options online and through distance learning programs for continuing education.
